The inaugural Lakeland Derby proved to be as exciting as the final leg of the Triple Crown. Coming down the backstretch, the jockey’s positioned themselves for what would be set up for a finish second to none. On the derby’s grand stage of Lake Mirror, history was made when the first winner of the traditional event crossed the finish line and into the winner’s circle.

Thousands of spectators watched from the shoreline in anticipation. The final leg of The Lakeland Derby was captured by a young swan named "Sindy" coasting easily to a first place victory. Rooms To Go, Sindy’s owner, and jockeys Joseph Herring and Justin Miller were proud to take home first place. Coming in a close second place was none other than "Swan Song", owned by Hall Communications, Inc. and jockeyed by Mark Stevens and Brad Dukes. Showing at 3rd place was "Norma". Norma was owned by Harrell’s and piloted by two up and coming jockeys, Lat Varn & Tonya Farthing.

The results have been posted as official. Owners, jockeys, and spectators alike are anxiously awaiting the 2009 Derby. Many will be interested in the pre race odds, as The Lakeland Derby will be sure to attract some of the best swans and jockeys in the central Florida region.
