Press Release - The Lakeland Derby Presents
Awards to recognize doctors for achievements in medical research and community service
It’s not often doctors in Polk County are recognized for improving the health of our community. For this reason, Lakeland Volunteers in Medicine is proud to announce two awards that will recognize area physicians for their achievements in medical research and community service. Dr. Ed Goodemote, from Radiology Imaging Specialists, is heading a panel that is establishing the criteria, nomination and selection process. Active and non-active physicians from Polk County are eligible. The two main awards will honor Polk County physicians who have made a significant impact in community health. The awards will be presented at a VIP Derby dinner following LVIM’s premier community event, The Lakeland Derby.
In the spirit of the Kentucky Derby, the Lakeland Derby will feature ten impressive fiberglass swans racing on Lake Mirror. A Parade to the Post at 6:00pm will signal the beginning of the swan derby. Derby gates open at 6:30pm. The beautiful hand-crafted swans, each with their own company sponsored jockey, will race to the finish line as spectators enjoy the first annual picturesque Lakeland Derby. The event benefits Lakeland Volunteers in Medicine, a non-profit medical clinic serving the working uninsured of Polk County.
LVIM’s Chief Administrative Officer, Bobby Yates, believes this premier event will generate more awareness of the level of quality medical services in our community.
“We are thrilled to be having a community event of this scope and to be able to recognize area physicians who have made significant contributions to medical science and to our community.”
Nominations for these prestigious awards are encouraged from physicians and non-physicians and must be submitted by January 31st, 2008.
